In the Olympic year 2024 Müller Plastics awards a gold medalMüller Plastics

Müller Plastics has undergone a voluntary Ecovadis assessment for the first time - and won a gold medal straight away. Insights into a company with a proven track record of sustainability.

In this year's Ecovadis sustainability rating Müller AG Plastics got 74 out of 100 points and thus achieved the Gold status. Müller Plastics accomplished this high score despite meeting demanding criteria and first time participation.

As a producer of high-quality plastic canisters and molded parts, environmental issues and sustainability have always been close to Müller Plastics' heart. In its sustainability strategy, the company also pursues the three focal points of climate neutrality, resource-conserving products and healthy and motivated employees.

Alain Berger (Managing Director), Michael Sowada (Head of Technology) and Rolf Zürcher (Field Sales) took part in the Ecovadis assessment process - on behalf of all employees in Muttenz. “The recognition is an appreciation of the great commitment and hard work of our entire Müller Plastics team. It makes me very proud,” Alain Berger explains.

Achieving Gold status with Ecovadis is challenging. Only the top 5% of the rated companies secure the coveted gold medal. Anyone wanting to hang this medal around the neck must be a proven real pioneer in sustainability. The comprehensive criterias that have to be met clearly focus on environmental protection, labor, human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

Alain Berger, how important is the Ecovadis Gold Medal award for Müller Plastics?

Alain Berger: It is very important to us. It confirms our commitment to sustainable practices and our responsibility towards the environment, society and the economy. This recognition not only strengthens our internal awareness of sustainability but also helps to strengthen the trust of our customers, partners and stakeholders in our brand. In addition, the gold medal positions us as a pioneer in our industry and opens up new business opportunities. More and more companies are placing importance on sustainable supply chains and this award helps us to stand out from the competition. We see the award not just as a goal but as an incentive to further expansion and continuously improve our efforts in the area of sustainability.

Michael Sowada, how do you recognize that sustainability generates real entrepreneurial added value?

Michael Sowada: Due to the size of our company and its limited resources, we have always been obliged to use them efficiently. As a result we have a sustainable corporate strategy that extends from the use of highly efficient plant systems to the training of competent employees. This gives us an enormous advantage in the market we use to manufacture our sophisticated plastic containers.

Rolf Zürcher, how has Müller Plastics managed to achieve gold status so far?

Rolf Zürcher: Müller AG Plastics has always set the highest quality standards. We have innovative products, some with unique selling points, which are tailored to the needs of our customers. Our customers rely on our quality, delivery dependability and on our commitment to our sustainability principles. Our dedicated team is working with great passion and expertise continuously achieving outstanding results every day. Müller Plastics also pursues a clear strategy and has always been prepared to adapt to changes in the market. We have been able to deploy all one’s skill. That's why we won gold the very first time we took part.

Alain Berger, what are Müller Plastics' next goals now that it has won gold?

Alain Berger: It's similar to sports: Yesterday you won a gold medal, tomorrow the next race is already on the agenda. The aim is to reaffirm the medal. We must therefore continue to work in a focused manner. Here are a few examples: We want to further optimize our processes in order to work in an even more environmentally friendly way and further reduce our ecological footprint. The training and development of our employees is a top priority for us. We want to create an environment in which all can develop and fully exploit their skills. And we want to continue to work closely with our customers to understand their needs and ensure that we exceed their expectations. All of this helps us to position our company for long-term success and further strengthen our commitment to quality and excellence.

Pause for a moment and enjoy the Evovardis award - and then get straight back to work.
