Sustainability report: strategic goals consistently pursuedMüller Packaging

Müller Packaging is publishing its sustainability report for the first time. With this step, the company is demonstrating transparently how seriously it takes the implementation of its sustainability strategy.

Müller Packaging's sustainability strategy guidelines focus on climate neutrality, resource-efficient products, and employee motivation. For years, the company has been consistently pursuing environmental protection, waste prevention, and the promotion of a positive working environment. With its new annual sustainability report, Müller Packaging aims to make these efforts even more visible.

Awards for sustainable commitment

For the 12th year in a row, Müller Packaging has been recognized by the Energy Agency for Industry (EnAW) for its climate protection measures. In April 2024, the company also received the silver medal from Ecovadis, which was awarded for its commitment to environmental protection, occupational safety, and human rights. The successful implementation of management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 underscores the company's sustainable orientation.

Focus on climate-neutral production

Energy-intensive production remains a key issue in the sustainability strategy. The company is continuously investing in the optimization of production processes in order to further reduce CO₂ emissions. In 2024, important projects were launched, including the planning of an e-charging station for trucks in Reiden and the expansion of photovoltaic systems at the Münchenstein and Reiden sites. Together, these systems produce over 1,770 MWh of electricity annually, thus making a significant contribution to the energy transition.

Resource-saving innovations

Technical improvements, such as the central control of furnace and exhaust air systems, have reduced energy consumption for the curing ovens by 5 percent. Over 90 percent of the heating energy is now generated from recovered waste heat. The renewal of the exhaust air system has also contributed to increased efficiency.

Committed employees

Müller Packaging attaches great importance to the involvement and further development of its employees. Workshops on the development of leadership principles, language courses for employees with German language skills, and free hot drinks are just some of the measures taken. In addition, water dispensers and reusable steel bottles have been introduced to reduce the use of PET bottles.

Sustainability – a vision for the future

Despite these positive developments, a customer survey shows that demand for sustainable solutions – such as green steel drums – is still hesitant. Nevertheless, Müller Packaging remains optimistic and continues to focus on innovative approaches to promote sustainability along the entire value chain.
