At the beginning of the year: Portrait of the two probably oldest Müller Group employees, Kurt Thut and Hans Richiero.


«Kurt come on, move forward! The interview starts at half past nine,» says Hans as he jumps light-footedly towards Kurt. Not out of breath, but in excellent condition despite the spurt, the two of them enter the meeting room above the workshop.

Kurt Thut (66, top left in the picture) has been working for Müller Cleaning since 2018. Hans Richiero (74, right) has been with the team for 6 years, started at the Wohlen site, took part in the move and now works here in Münchenstein. Both work in the Assembling / Assembly department as plant fitters. They are enthusiastic about their department manager, Martin Wochele. Even more. They say: «If it weren't for him, the workshop would be chaos.»

Because they like working at Müller Cleaning, the two spry retirees are still there - in a part-time workload of about 50 percent, on call. They are called up according to the workload. So it can happen that they are here for a whole week.

Hans Richiero loves cycling. «However, since I can't be on the bike every day and I don't want to be on my wife's back either, in discussions with the management of Müller Cleaning it turned out that I work here on a daily basis.» He thinks the mix of leisure, family and continued employment is great: «That's how it came about that I'm still here," he says with a smile.

Kurt Thut was approached by Martin Wochele about a year ago. «I used to be his boss, now he is mine. He told me they still had work here, also for me. Then I thought about it and shortly afterwards I started at Müller Cleaning.»

The diverse field of work of the experienced men ranges from insulating the piping in the washing chambers, to component and part installation, to packing and palletizing the components of the cleaning systems. In between, they help as a team when an extra hand is needed.

Teamwork is very important at Müller Cleaning. Hans Richiero and Kurt Thut appreciate this and the collegial relationship, also with the younger employees. The question arises as to whether they can give the boys some tips and advice and whether they can accept them. The two reply quite spontaneously and honestly: «We can't give the young colleagues too many tips. They are strong and top in their areas of work.»

Kurt Thut often thinks of the customer in his work, «after all, it is he who pays our wages. We have to work in such a way that the customer is satisfied, that he receives top quality». And Hans Richiero adds: «When I do insulation work, I always make sure that it looks good so that the customer gets a classy overall picture when he runs to the cleaning system. This sometimes means that we have to use more material to achieve a nicer solution. This directly increases customer satisfaction.»

The power pensioners are fully behind the GMP cleaning systems that are produced here at Müller Cleaning for the pharmaceutical industry: «The efficiency with which systems are created here, the amount of know-how that goes into them, the way in which customer requirements are solved individually in some cases, and the functions that the cleaning systems can perform are unique and make us proud.»

From time to time they are asked by their colleagues why they are still working at their advanced age. Hans Richiero then says: «I work here because I have the fun of working and the fun of talking to my colleagues. And at my funeral don't say that the codger worked until he died. Just say he worked because it gave him pleasure.» Kurt Thut adds, «that it's nice to be retired and that I don't have to work every day, but that I'm allowed to work in addition to spending time with my family - especially my five grandchildren. I have consciously chosen to still work without having to work.»

The joy of work shimmers through with each of her answers. Even in their last one: «We must be able to do something that they keep us», both say in unison. «It is a good feeling to work voluntarily. We enjoy it here. Otherwise we wouldn't do this to ourselves». And again, both laugh heartily.
